As an agent, from August 1977 Stephen has sold or leased over 3,000,000 sf of commercial space in the Buffalo and Rochester areas. This has included retail, office, industrial, and multi-family investment property types, or adaptations of these to alternative uses.

Stephen has been an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers since 1978. He was President/CEO of HUNT Commercial from 1991 to 2003 before selling HUNT Commercial back to HUNT Real Estate Corporation in 2003. Stephen was a founding member, and five-time President, of the Commercial Division of the Buffalo-Niagara Association Of Realtors, and its successor, the WNY Chapter of the NYS Commercial Association of Realtors. Stephen continues as an active commercial agent, as well as Managing Member of Brisbane Realty, LLC (owner of the 200,000 sf 403 Main Street, Buffalo) with his brother, Peter.

Stephen started working with his father, C. Stuart Hunt, in 1977 in the Commercial Office at 47 West Huron Street, Buffalo.

Shortly thereafter he was made the leasing agent for a strip plaza owned by a related partnership in Chili, NY which introduced Stephen to both the Rochester and Buffalo retail markets and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Stephen values most the opportunity to share and discuss complete information with his customers. Through the deep history of leases and sales at HUNT Commercial it is possible to supply such information for customers to whom we are committed. Reliable income-expense statements, comparison of leases and sales by price per sf, and projections of renovation costs are some of the variables through which HUNT Commercial can help its customers make the most responsible property choices.

Stephen attended Amherst Central High School, received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Colgate in 1971, and a master’s degree in philosophy from SUNY Albany in 1976. He received WNY NYSCAR’s Lifetime Achievement award in 2018.

Stephen is a lifetime member of Central Park United Methodist Church in Buffalo, serving in many roles, including the choir. He continues to take private piano lessons and works out at the Jewish Community Center many times per week. Stephen has been a board member at Beechwood Continuing Care since 1998. Stephen is married to the former Anne Leary, has a son, Dyvan, and four grandchildren.
